Bangladesh registers over 8,000 COVID-19 cases

FIVE more people died of COVID-19 infection in the last 24 hours, the Directorate General of health services (DGHS) said on Saturday (2).

The death toll now stands at 175, said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS.

Five hundred and fifty-two people have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

With this, the total number of infected has reached 8,790.

A total of 5,827 samples were tested across the country since yesterday, which is 4.56 percent more than the previous day, Dr Nasima added.

Meanwhile, three more patients receiving treatment at several hospitals recovered from the infection, taking the total recovery number to 177.

Among the five deceased, three were male and two were female, the DGHS official said adding that they were all from Dhaka.

A total of 168 persons were put under isolation across the country in the last 24 hours, she also said.
