Bangladesh reports 19 COVID-19 deaths in a day; its highest so far

BANGLADESH reported 1,162 new COVID-19 infections and 19 fresh deaths in the past 24 hours. This is the highest single day death toll and new infections registered by the country so far, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said Wednesday (13).

The death toll now stands at 269, said Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS. With this, the total number of infected has reached 17822.

A total of 7,900 samples were tested in 41 labs across the country since Tuesday, Dr Nasima added.

Meanwhile, 214 COVID-19 patients have recovered in the country in the last 24 hours. The total recovery number stands at 3,361, the DGHS official said.

Among the deceased, seven were female, Dr Nasima said adding that one of them was a child, aged under 10.

Twelve of the deceased were from Dhaka city, one from Narayanganj, one from Munshiganj, one from Pabna, one from Narail, two from Chattogram and one from Cumilla, the official revealed.

A total of 150 people were put under isolation in the last 24 hours, she added.
