The death toll now stands at 650, and the death rate is at 1.38 percent, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general (administration) of DGHS, said during the briefing.

The highest number of deaths reported in 24 hours came the same day as the government relaxed the nationwide shutdown measures.

It wasn’t just the number of deaths that hit a new record — two thousand five hundred and forty-five people tested positive for Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest number of infections detected in a day in the country. With this, the total number of infected has reached 47,151.

A total of 11,876 samples were tested in 52 labs across the country in the last 24 hours, Dr Nasima said.

Meanwhile, 406 Covid-19 patients have recovered since yesterday, taking the total number of recovered patients to 9,781 and recovery rate to 20.74 percent, the DGHS official added.

Among the deceased, 33 were male and seven were female, she said, adding that 28 were from Dhaka, eight from Chattogram, two from Khulna, one in Rangpur and another was from Rajshahi division.

Of them, one was aged 21-30, five between 31-40, 11 between 41-50, eight within 51-60, 11 between 61-70, and four between 71-80 years old, Dr Nasima also said.

A total of 391 people were put under isolation and 126 people were released in the last 24 hours, she said.

Besides, 5,794 people were put in isolation so far and 3,016 were released in total so far across the country, she added.

In the 24 hours, a total of 2,947 people were put under quarantine while 3,042 others were released throughout the country.

Currently, 60,181 people were under home and institutional quarantine, the DGHS official said.

As the countrywide shutdown has been relaxed from today, the DGHS also published on its website “technical guidelines for prevention and control of Covid-19 social and institutional infections“.

The guideline also lists some mandatory steps to be maintained by the managements of the institutions to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
